The 2010 Chicago History Fair Kickoff was held at the Newberry Library on Thursday, Oct. 14. Attending were representatives of UIC Special Collections, The Newberry Library, the National Archives and Records Administration, Media Burn, The Japanese-American Service Committee, Chicago Public Library and the Chicago History Museum.
The purpose of the event is to supply students and teachers with suggestions on where the students can go to gather information on the year's topic for the Chicago History Fair: http://www.chicagohistoryfair.org/history-fair.html . This year's topic is "Debate and Diplomacy in History: Success, Failures, Consequences."
I spoke to 30 people there, and suggested they check out our "Remembering FDR" page: http://www.idaillinois.org/cdm4/browse.php?CISOROOT=%2Froosevu, which contains digital images of FDR memorabelia, including campaign materials.
-They fed us well and the only sad note was that my favorite deli in the area, across the street from the library, had been replaced by a gallery.
